COLBERT HONORARY STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT FOR LIFE WHEREAS, the Preamble to the Student Senate Rules and Regulations states that it is the responsibility of the Student Senate to work to enhance the learning experience of all KU students both in and out of the classroom. and WHEREAS, the Preamble to the Student Senate Rules and Regulations also states that it is the responsibility of the Student Senate to work to further the cultural, social, and political growth of KU students. and WHEREAS, Stephen T. Colbert embodies the principles that the Student Senate stands for, and WHEREAS, by appointing Stephen T. Colbert to this permanent position it guarantees that the Student Senate will always have strong leadership, and WHEREAS, Stephen T. Colbert has proven his leadership skills time and time again by tackling the tough issues, defending America, contributing to the English language, embodying the spirit of Captain America, furthering the American dream, protecting the bald eagle, and WHEREAS, he has proved his dedication to civic learning by educating all of America in his Better Know a District series, and WHEREAS, during the 2008 presidential primary, Stephen T. Colbert, attempted to acquire the nomination of both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, and WHEREAS, he would have been successful in uniting our country under his leadership if it was not for the fear and jealousy of party members whom unethically prevented him from obtaining the nominations, and WHEREAS, the University of Kansas would be honored to embrace him as one of our leaders, and WHEREAS, give him the rightful place of leadership and respect that one of the icons of America deserves. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the University of Kansas Student Senate here assembled that the following amendments are made to Article II, Section 1: ARTICLE II. MEMBERSHIP Section 1. MEMBERSHIP Student Senate Rules and Regulations shall be effective as they pertain to the Student Senate, members of the Student Senate, and all committees and appointees of any of the above. The Student Senate shall consist of: Student Body President elected by the student body (non-voting); 1. Stephen T. Colbert shall permanently serve as the honorary Student Body President. When President Colbert is on the University property he will have the full authority, responsibilities and duties of the Student Body President. Student Body Vice President elected by the student body (voting in the event of a tie); 57 representatives of the student body of each school of the University. The representatives from the College of the Liberal Arts and Sciences shall be broken down into two categories Junior/Senior Liberal Arts and Sciences and Freshman/Sophomore Liberal Arts and Sciences. Junior/Senior Liberal Arts and Sciences shall refer to students who have completed 60 or more hours in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the time of election or appointment. Freshman/Sophomore Liberal Arts and Sciences shall refer to students who have completed less than 60 hours in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the time of election or appointment. Apportionment of Student Senate seats to the various schools shall be made on the basis of the official 20th day headcount enrollment figures as determined by the Student Senate Elections Commission with the approval of the Student Executive Committee.
