KU Student Senate

Get Involved

Student Senate is a great organization to get involved with.  It is absolutely unique in terms of size, networking opportunities, structure, influence on campus, and educational value.  (Yes, if you put work into being a good Student Senator, you will learn a lot about how politics, governments and administrations really work.)  That said, Student Senate is not necessarily for everybody.  Like anything else, what you get out of Student Senate depends very much on what you put into it.

If you are just looking for an organization that you can casually help out with a few times a semester you may find that Senate does not match well with what you are looking for.  Those who have some doubts about whether not Student Senate is really for them should feel free to check out other opportunities for getting involved such as the Center for Community Outreach (CCO) or one of the over 575 registered student organizations (you can browse that list here).

If, on the other hand, you’d really like to get involved in Student Senate, then welcome!  You stand to gain a lot by getting involved with student politics and we are excited to begin working with you.  There are three initial ways to get involved with Student Senate.  You can join a committee, apply to become a Student Senator, or join a board.  If you don’t have any idea what a committee or a board is, then take a quick look at this overview of the structure of student senate to familiarize yourself with what you have the option of joining.

Ok!  Once you’ve got an idea on the direction you’d like to head, click on one of the links to the right to get started in that direction.  Once again welcome, and good luck!
